Harvesting Loose-Leaf Lettuce
Are you a First Time Gardener wondering how to harvest your Leaf Lettuce and have it continue to Grow? The "cut and come again method" is perfect for loose leaf varieties of lettuce. When the lettuce leaves reach 4" long you can start harvesting.
You can cut or pinch off the outer leaves, leaving the center, smaller leaves to continue growing or you can cut off the leaves about 1" above the crown, this will let the plant send new leaves. Don't let the plant bolt (form seed stalks). We usually plant in about two-week cycles so that we can continue to harvest and let the plants continue to grow. You can store lettuce for 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator.
